จิตตปัญญาศึกษา วางอยู่บนกระบวนทัศน์แบบองค์รวม (Holistic paradigm) ตั้งต้นสืบค้นความเป็นจริงด้วยฐานปฏิบัติการภายในผ่านช่องทางการรับรู้ทั้งหก ได้แก่ ประสาทสัมผัสและจิตใจ บนท่าทีของการใคร่ครวญเปิดใจ สะท้อนความรู้สึก เปิดความเชื่อพื้นฐาน และร่วมสรรค์สร้าง โดยอาศัยพลังแห่งสติ การตระหนักรู้ และเท่าทันอคติภายใน ร่วมกับการสืบค้นความเป็นจริงแบบปฏิฐานนิยม (แบบวิทยาศาสตร์) การใช้หลักเหตุผล และการประกอบสร้างความหมายเชิงสังคม
จิตตปัญญาศึกษา มุ่งสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจและการฝึกปฏิบัติบนวิถีแห่งประสบการณ์ที่ว่าด้วย ตนเอง ผู้อื่น ชุมชน สังคม โลกและธรรมชาติ บนฐานของการมีความสัมพันธ์เชื่อมโยงและความเป็นองค์รวม มหาบัณฑิตจากหลักสูตรจิตตปัญญาศึกษา จะเป็นผู้ที่เกิดจากการขยับขยายมุมมองพื้นฐานและโลกทัศน์ นำไปสู่การยกระดับของจิตสำนึกและสร้างการเปลี่ยนแปลงทั้งภายในตนเองในชุมชน และในสังคมวงกว้าง อีกทั้งเข้าถึงศักยภาพแห่งความเป็นมนุษย์ที่ดำรงอยู่ในโลกบนการมีอิสรภาพที่แท้
